A Skincare Routine That Feels Like Self-Care

For years, I struggled to find the right way to wash my face. I tried every kind of face wash, scrub, and cleanser you can imagine—drugstore brands, high-end “glow-boosting” cleansers, and even dermatologist-recommended products. Some made my skin feel tight and dry, others left it greasy, and worst of all? My breakouts never went away.

I kept asking myself, Why is my skin reacting like this? If these cleansers were supposed to clear acne and balance my skin, why did I always feel like something was off?

Ditching Face Wash for Herbal Clay Masks

One day, I started researching natural skincare and how people used to care for their skin before bottled face washes existed. That’s when I came across herbal clay masks—simple, plant-based ingredients like kaolin clay, oats, and ground herbs that cleanse the skin without stripping its natural oils.

I decided to give it a try. I mixed kaolin clay, chamomile, and finely ground oats into a soft powder and used it as a cleanser. From the first use, I knew this was different. My skin felt refreshed and calm, not irritated or overly dry.

And then, something amazing happened—my breakouts started to clear up.

Why Herbal Clay Masks Are a Game Changer

Switching to a herbal clay mask cleanser was the best decision for my skin. Unlike traditional foaming cleansers, which can be filled with harsh surfactants and artificial ingredients, this natural method works with my skin, not against it.

Here’s why I love it:

Kaolin Clay – A gentle, mineral-rich clay that removes excess oil, unclogs pores, and helps with acne without being harsh.

Oats – Naturally soothing, oats reduce redness and irritation while lightly exfoliating. Perfect for sensitive skin.

Chamomile – Known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, chamomile helps calm breakouts and supports healing.

Coffee & Matcha: My Favorite Add-Ins

As I kept experimenting, I started adding different ingredients to my clay mask to target specific skin concerns. Two of my absolute favorites? Coffee and matcha.

Coffee Grounds – The natural caffeine helps depuff my face in the morning, while the fine grounds offer gentle exfoliation, leaving my skin soft and smooth.

Matcha Powder – Packed with antioxidants, matcha soothes inflammation, fights acne, and gives my skin a fresh, healthy glow.

I love how both of these add-ins wake up my skin, making it look and feel brighter without any irritation.

My Go-To Moisturizer: Grass-Fed Tallow

One of the biggest skincare changes I made—besides ditching face wash—was switching to organic, grass-fed beef tallow as my only moisturizer. At first, I wasn’t sure about putting tallow on my face, but after learning how similar it is to our skin’s natural oils, I had to try it.

Now, I’ll never go back.

Grass-fed tallow is rich in fatty acids, vitamins A, D, E, and K, and deeply nourishes the skin without clogging pores. Since using it, my skin has felt healthier, more balanced, and incredibly soft. No fancy ingredients, no chemicals—just pure, natural hydration.

A Skincare Routine That Feels Like Self-Care

Now, cleansing my face isn’t just part of my routine—it’s something I actually enjoy. Instead of scrubbing my face with chemicals, I mix my herbal clay cleanser, breathe in the natural scents, and gently massage it onto my skin. It’s a little moment of self-care that helps me start and end my day feeling good.

If you’re struggling with breakouts, irritation, or just feeling like your skincare routine isn’t working, I highly recommend trying a herbal clay mask instead of face wash. It’s simple, effective, and full of skin-loving ingredients that work naturally.

Have you ever used natural clays or herbs in your skincare routine? I’d love to hear about it!
